Black Bears in Massachusetts -- Link

Black bears are relatively common in Western Mass., although they generally avoid contact with humans. Nevertheless, I've talked to a number of people who have had them on their property, including a couple of people who have had close encounters. If you encounter a black bear, they can usually be encouraged to take off by simply standing your ground. Don't play dead with a black bear under any circumstances!
