Al Gore's Speech to the American Constitution Society
Al Gore's (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) speech before the American Constitution Society was absolutely brilliant and if you didn't hear it, you may want to check out C-Span's schedule to see if and when it will be aired. I was amazed both by the logic and forcefulness of his message that this country faces a dire threat to our liberties from the current administration's illegal and flagrant violations of the constitutional protections that citizens of this society have enjoyed since early in the nation's history and through some very difficult times and by the fact that listening to his speech I completely forgot about my old opinion of Gore as a wooden, colorless speaker who lacked charisma or passion (perhaps these are intricately linked). I was left feeling that this man really should be president. In any event, the issues he brought up are fundamental to the ideals that make this nation special and without which our reason for existing are called into question.
